Henry Paulet:
Owner, Manager, Creative - Henry Paulet Design
Backed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production) and a Master of Information Systems from The University of Melbourne, I am a Melbourne based technical design consultant across both the entertainment and corporate IT service industries.
With a large portion of my work constituting technical services for a wide range of event types, my extensive experience across the corporate and theatrical sectors has provided me with a broad and unique skill set bringing a fresh and innovative perspective to technical services.
Having worked with countless touring performances throughout my work as a theatre technician in my home region of rural Western Victoria, my interest in the industry has continued throughout my education and has stretched into other related industries in Melbourne.
For over 10 years I have worked within the performing arts sector, with a particular interest and focus within the technologies that facilitate performance of music and theatre. Through many of these years of experience, and my subsequent degree, I have developed a true passion for innovative and creative uses for theatre technology.
Working as both a designer and technician has provided me with the knowledge to operate as an independent practitioner with a desire to contribute to new and exciting works with creatives from a range of different mediums. Of note, my role as Vision Designer for the highly successful Victorian College of the Arts’ production of Peter Pan in 2018 brought the worlds of theatre and cinema together to create unique narrative perspectives that audiences could choose between as they wished. Similarly, I worked alongside MTC’s Dean Bryant through the Victorian College of the Arts production of ‘The Skin of Our Teeth’ as sound designer and composer.
My work with independent musicians and bands is also extensive. I have collaborated with classical oboist Jasper Ly in several of his performances of Jonathan Harvey’s ‘Ricercare una Melodia for Oboe and Electronics’; providing technical advice and operation of this complex hybrid accoustic/electronic piece. I produced a quality and innovative system to achieve the intricacies imposed by such a unique piece. I also assisted with his concert ‘Quietus’ at the WinterWild Festival in Apollo Bay. My work with Jasper continues as he, fello composers and artists continue to perform and produce new works in Melbourne.
I have also worked with electronic and indie pop band ‘LouSkylar‘ to produce a series of concerts as a key designer for vision, lighting and sound. For releases of new tracks and an opportunity to break into the indie pop scene, my collaboration with LouSkylar produced a unique and totally immersive experience that wowed audiences.
As a closely related industry, I have over six years experience working in corporate audio visual for several Melbourne based companies. Aside from operating an extensive range of professional audio/visual equipment, I was often consulted regarding technical and lighting design. As a ‘go-to’ lighting designer for one organization, I worked in several notable public and events venues to produce unique vibrant spaces. This included several noteworthy events at the State Library of Victoria and the RACV Club. I have also acted as a key consultant in a large investment of intelligent lighting fixtures and control hardware, and was responsible for educating other team members on their use and maintenance.
My additional completion of two CISCO CCNA modules (Introduction to Networks and Routing & Switching) and two Aries PC Maintenance and Repair courses, has also allowed me to work as an IT consultant and support technician for schools, corporate clients and events. In these roles I have worked closely with clients to ensure that IT services run smoothly and with minimum down time to end users. This has included maintaining physical computer and network hardware, deploying and maintaining computer operating systems and software, configuring networks and network monitoring. This skill set compliments my interest and passion for interconnected and innovative performance technology.
